About Avishan

Avishan is a senior consultant based in Switzerland, Lebanon and Slovakia. She has over 14 years’ experience working in both humanitarian and development sectors providing expertise in the areas of programme development, strategic planning, partnership development, advocacy, strategic communications and resource mobilization.

She has worked on a wide range of topics including migration, climate change, disaster risk reduction, food security for clients as diverse as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria and the UN-REDD Programme. Within the humanitarian sector she has worked extensively on the issue of migration for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Notably managing the work of civil society organizations based in Jordan and Lebanon in their implementation of the Rights of Migrants in Action project aimed at promoting and protecting the human rights of migrant domestic workers and victims of human trafficking.

Avishan has coordinated and contributed to the drafting of inter-agency open letter spearheaded by the Kofi Annan Foundation to European leaders in addressing the current refugee and migration crises.

In addition she has provided technical guidance monitoring the implementation of advocacy strategies by 40 CSOs under the Rights of Migrants in Action project, and managed the development of a global study on enhancing the resilience of migrants through analysis of smart practices in delivering assistance, protection and awareness raising interventions to migrants along migratory routes.


She managed the development of an online course on migration for the IFRC in partnership with the Queen Rania Foundation for practitioners from the Arab speaking world.

She has managed the revision of the 2011 edition of the Sphere Project’s Handbook – Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Responses.

Avishan has been the lead of communications and engagement strategies for the UN-REDD Programme Secretariat, overseeing the conceptualization, development and implementation of communications strategies for all areas of work, including for global environment policy and advocacy work.


Within the scope of her freelance career she has conducted donor landscape mappings, carried out global perception audits as well as conducting research and developing business cases on a wide spectrum of topics.

Avishan holds an MSc in Social Policy and Planning of Developing Countries from LSE (London School of Economy) focusing on role of faith-based groups in providing social welfare in the Middle East. She is fluent in English, French and Persian and has notions of Arabic and Portuguese.
